Follow the trailer manufacturer’s inflation pressure recommendations if available. Otherwise, the inflation pressure for all tires should be adjusted to the one carrying the heaviest load. Please use this link to determine the proper inflation pressure for different load conditions. In order to accurately assess your tires’ inflation pressure, please note that inflation pressure should be adjusted and/or checked when the tire is cold or before driving for the day.
Under-inflation increases the risk of road hazard damage, uneven tire wear and tread separation. Maxxis recommends checking inflation pressure at least once a month and before each trip. Always maintain equal inflation pressures on mated dual applications. Remember not to over-inflate your tires beyond the tire or wheel’s specifications. Maximum tire inflation guidelines are marked on the sidewall of the tire. Please consult with the wheel manufacturer regarding inflation pressures. Because many conditions affect a tire’s life span, it is impossible to predict how long a tire will last. Tires can be affected by conditions including climate, storage practices and usage etc. Maxxis does offer a limited warranty on trailer tires up to five years from date of manufacture, so please check /trailer/trailer-warranty for more details. Maxxis recommends checking tire condition before driving and seeking a professional opinion when abnormal tire appearance is observed.
The most common condition is sidewall weathering cracks (multiple cracks along the flex area of the sidewall), usually related to long term inactivity, direct exposure to UV rays, direct exposure to high levels of ozone, or exposure to alcohol or petroleum-based cleaners. If internal tire components such as steel or fabric body plies are visible, please change the tire and consult a professional immediately. Maxxis recommends maintaining at least 4/32nds tread depth when the tires are in service. Tires should be checked by professionals at 6/32nds for potential issues. Maxxis recommends storing tires indoors in a clean, cool and dry area away from UV rays or ozone gases (eg. generators). Tires should be stacked flat and reduced to 15 psi if mounted on wheels during storage. If tires must be stored outdoors, Maxxis recommends raising tires off the storage surface to avoid excessive contact with the elements. If possible, wrap the tires in an opaque polyethylene cover to minimize the effects of ozone and oxygen.
If a trailer is being stored without removing the tires, place blocks under the trailer to remove all weight from the tires. Avoid moving the trailer during extreme cold weather. Always adjust inflation pressure before putting tires back into service Maxxis recommends avoiding mixing different tires on a trailer. Even within the same brand, different models may feature different construction and design, thereby significantly altering driving characteristics. Always wash tires with water and never with chemical agents. Before a trip, always inspect all tires and wheels for potential damage or missing/loose parts. Make sure the tread depth difference between all tires is no more than 4/32nds. Check the condition of your spare tire as well. Maxxis recommends using the tire size recommended by the trailer manufacturer. Consult your trailer’s manufacturer and/or a tire professional for alternative sizing inquiries. Can I use a larger trailer tire than what was provided as original equipment?
Please consult your trailer’s manufacturer to determine correct load ratings and fitment. Can I use narrower/wider trailer wheels? Please consult your trailer’s manufacturer. Can I go faster than the recommended 65mph when towing a trailer? Maxxis recommends that you do not exceed 65mph when towing a trailer. What do the yellow and red dots on the tire indicate? Yellow indicates the lightest part of the tire and red indicates the first harmonic radial force variation peak. Can I use a light truck tire on a trailer? Maxxis recommends using only ST tires on trailers. How can I find out what tire size fit my trailer wheels? for approved rim widths. Should I rotate my trailer tires? If a particular tire is wearing faster than the others, Maxxis recommends rotating. Be sure to consult a tire professional for recommendations. How do I clean Maxxis ST radials? Maxxis recommends washing our ST radials with clean water and a sponge.
